What Is the celtic wheel?

The Celtic wheel is an ancient tool used by our ancestors as a guide to know when to sow crops, harvest, rest, wait, etc. They marked each of the 8 points of the wheel with ceremonies, rituals, activities and themes. They danced at the summer festivals, they celebrated at Lughnasa and they patiently waited at Samhain, resting and knowing that the spring will arrive.

When you use the wheel you learn how to navigate your own cycles, to get unstuck when life pauses, to let go when you are struggling, to trust and wait patiently when nothing is happening and to celebrate the moments of joy and accomplishment.

At each of the 8 significant dates you pause, take a breath and realign so that you can move forward in conjunction with nature and with purposeful intention. In so doing, you begin to co-create your life rather than passively moving through it.

We use the wheel as a tool to:
  1. Awaken to life
  2. Co- create with nature
  3. Pause & reflect every 6 weeks (approx.)
  4. Guide us on our cycles
  5. Connect with our ancestors, our culture & our heritage.

It starts in the darkness….as all things do! Samhain is Celtic new year and considered to be the “start” of the Celtic wheel.

I am a qualified Biochemist from Trinity College, Dublin and over the past 15 years I have read, studied and practiced mindfulness. I have trained with some of the leading experts, gone on retreats all over the world and held some of my own. I have also worked teaching 8 week mindfulness courses in the community, in companies and as a 1:1.

I am passionate about mindfulness as I can honestly say that it has changed my life! I know that can sound very OTT at times and it wasn’t this sudden flash of light that came down and I was enlightened, sitting lotus position, emanating love (wouldn’t that be wonderful!) No, it was over time and with patience and commitment I found that old behaviours that didn’t serve me well melted away, negative beliefs no longer held me captive and I wasn’t a victim of my emotions (finally!)

The changes were incremental and yet they were very obvious once I became aware of them. I actually began to feel more comfortable within myself which I never thought possible having suffered with depression for most of my life. With that everything changed for the better.
